Penalty goal
4. Martin Lippens (Anderlecht)
Restless, even very gloomy Heysel Stadium had gathered this evening more than 70,000 spectators, who had come early with their flags, sirens, whistles, often „accompanied“ by pistol shots...
In the twelfth minute Rankov found himself in an ideal position for a goal. His shot, however, sent the ball into the goalkeeper's body. Until this moment, the Danish referee Sorensen officiated energetically and impartially, which seemed not to be to the liking of the thousands of Belgian spectators. Under the indescribable roar and psychological harassment, five minutes before the end of the half, he awarded a penalty against CDNA to the surprise even of the most ardent supporters of „Anderlecht“. (After the match, Sorensen tried to explain that in the scramble Gaganelov had pushed Stockman in the back). Lippens scored — 1:0 for „Anderlecht“.
Six minutes after the resumption of play, Van Himst entered the penalty area with the ball, reached the byline, and there Kovachev threw himself at the feet of the Belgian forward. Van Himst fell and this gave cause for a second penalty in front of Naydenov's goal. Lippens did not miss this time either — 2:0.
Until the end of the match, there was no turning point in the game, as our forwards, with the possible exception of Kolev, played poorly, and furthermore, the unusually excited defenders of „Anderlecht“ used all permitted and unpermitted means to block the Bulgarian footballers.
In the second half of the match, the one who had previously troubled us stood out with his play — Romanov. Known as a forward, today he took an unusual position — left defender. But there Romanov earned the highest rating from the Bulgarian footballers.
