Before more than 40,000 spectators today in Prague, the football match for the European Champions' Cup took place between „Dukla“ (Prague) and CSKA (Sofia). In a dramatic match, played with fast and interesting game, „Dukla“ won with 2:1 (0:1).
The CSKA footballers played withdrawn throughout the entire first half, with only Raykov, Kolev remaining forward, and from time to time Yakimov was there to help them. This created an impression of „Dukla"'s superiority. Our team's defense, with this tactic, had a very difficult task, which it honorably fulfilled in the first half. The „Dukla“ players, drawn forward, left Rankov uncovered, who took the ball from deep and in the 44th minute opened the scoring in favor of our army men.
The second half began with strong pressure from „Dukla“. For 5 minutes, 4 corner kicks were taken in front of our goal. Their pressure was crowned with success in the 54th minute, when after a corner kick Kucera, who was the best player of his team today, with a strong unsaveable shot equalized the score. „Dukla"'s superiority continued. In the 70th minute, after a penalty kick, Safranek increased the score to 2:1 for „Dukla“. From that moment, the CSKA footballers abandoned the defensive tactic and went on the attack, but the score remained unchanged. Referee Pratsik from Poland ended the match with a score of 2:1 for „Dukla“. Thus, the Czechoslovak champion gained the right to continue the further struggle for the European Cup.
