Turin football fans showed keen interest in the qualifying match for the European Champions' Cup. More than 30,000 spectators watched the contested struggle between the teams of Juventus and CDNA, who presented themselves to referee Hübler (Switzerland) in the following lineups: Juventus — Vavassori — Burelli, Cervato, Sarti — Emoli, Colombo — Nicole, Lojodice, Charles, Sivori, Stivanello. CDNA: Naydenov — Rakarov, Manolov, Hovachev — Alexiev, P. Dimitrov — Romanov, Tsanev, Panayotov, Kolev, Yakimov.
The Bulgarian footballers started at a fast pace and in the very first moments tested Vavassori, who with difficulty cleared a strong diagonal shot by Romanov for a corner. Shortly after, Kolev failed to capitalize on a mistake by Burelli, which could have allowed CDNA to open the scoring. During a counter-attack in the 5th min. Nicole crossed, Charles received the ball and passed precisely to Lojodice, who sent it into Naydenov's net. The Army men were not fazed and responded with new attacks, which secured them territorial dominance. In the 16th min. Yakimov had a chance to equalize, but from a clear position shot high. Unlike the Army men, Juventus' attackers proved to be better finishers and in the 24th min. through the Argentine Sivori increased the score to 2:0. Until halftime, the game proceeded with shared dominance.
In the second half, the game proceeded in approximately the same spirit as before halftime. In the 49th min. Nicole sent the ball into Naydenov's net, but the referee had already called offside at the moment of the shot. In the 53rd minute, Yakimov sent a strong shot towards Vavassori's goal, but the ball went over the bar. Tense situations followed in front of both goals, but the defenders managed to eliminate the danger. Naydenov had the opportunity to show his class, saving two strong shots from Sivori and Charles, who was particularly closely guarded by the Army defense. Towards the end, fatigue was felt in both teams. Overall, the game was interesting and at a high technical level. After the announcement of the end of the match, the public warmly welcomed both the hosts and the guests. The match was played under electric lighting.
