Penalty goal
8. Vladimir Kovačević (Partizan)
By the eighth minute, CDNA missed scoring three goals! In those minutes, CDNA in spirit was as we wanted to see them: combative, offensive. In contrast to their opponent, who seemed to deliberately seek a slow tempo convenient for them, CDNA acted lively, fast, impetuously. In the first twenty minutes, Kolev repeatedly won the duel with Yusuffi, and from there, from the left flank, dangers arose for „Partizan“. Of course, the misses could not continue indefinitely. And behold – in the 14th min. Kolev, having reached the end line, shot sharply in front of the goal, where Raykov merely put his foot to the ball – 1:0.
The offensive continued, and after five minutes, the scoreboard already showed 2:0. A penalty kick, sharply struck by Kolev, a „wall“ that only hindered Shoshkich – and CDNA's dominance in these opening minutes found real reflection.
In fact, with their pressure, CDNA shifted the weight of the game forward and postponed the moment when the opponent would realize that the army team's defense was weak. Moreover, after the two goals, „Partizan“ was a team, if not confused, at least spineless, with clearly expressed symptoms of irritation. This was the moment when CDNA could have made their trip to Belgrade on October 3rd more relaxed! Alas! They did not use this moment...
After 20 min. the tempo dropped. It seems to us that the tension of this stormy start exhausted a lot of physical strength, especially in the „tip of the spear,“ which Kolev was. Moreover, he found little support from his attacking partners. The reaction of „Partizan“ was also natural. 2:0 – this was not at all pleasant as a deficit for Belgrade... The entire attacking quintet of the guests became active. Several times Naydenov hung helplessly during his excursions outside the penalty area... During one such challenge on Br. Mihajlovic, Naydenov fouled the attacker and caused a penalty. Kovacevic reduced the score — 2:1.
And so, after 20 min. of CDNA's dominance, the game entered another phase – broken play plus a pattern in all sectors. The Yugoslavs seemed not very concerned by the one-goal difference and were not in a hurry to gain anything more.
In the second half, however, their appetite sharpened, and they repeatedly put Naydenov in a critical situation. They were already an organized team, dangerous in every attack. In converting favorable chances, however, they did not perform, and the match ended with the first half's score – 2:1 for CDNA.
CDNA's play in the first 20 minutes is a guarantee that with sober conclusions from the match in Sofia, success can be expected in Belgrade as well.
