In the return leg of the European Cup qualifying round, CDNA crushed the Italian champion 4:1 and with an aggregate score of 4:3 qualified for the next round of the tournament. The match was played in front of a packed Vasil Levski Stadium, and over 50,000 people witnessed the army men's victory.
In the first half, the game was two-sided and both teams had a chance to score. The army men predominantly attacked, while the players of the „Old Lady“ played their usual game – eight men in defense, Charles and Stivanello with the support of Boniperti acted upfront. In the 19th minute, Nikola Kovachev scored the first goal of the match from a direct free kick into Gianni Romano's goal – 1:0. The result completely suited Juve and the black and whites did not change their tactics. The first half of the match ended with this score.
At halftime, CDNA coach Krum Milev convinced his charges that it was entirely within their power to defeat the Italian champion, they just had to want it! The coach's words reached the ears of the army men and they inflicted such a defeat on the „stars“ of Juventus that they still remember it. During a scramble, Nikola Kovachev in the 56th minute equalized the aggregate score from the two matches - 2:0. Eleven minutes later, Panayot Panayotov in the 67th minute headed the Bulgarian champion ahead – 3:0! The players of the Old Lady launched attacks to force a third match, but in the 76th minute, Nikola Tsanev surprised them and scored for 4:0! The army men could now relax, they had crushed Juventus. The visitors managed to score one goal two minutes before the end but it was already too late 4:1 in favor of CDNA and the Old Lady had to return to Italy with her head bowed.
