An excellent match for the army men in the first leg of the UEFA Cup tournament. The initial onslaught of the hosts led to a quick success, but it not only did not disturb the CSKA players, but it spurred them to turn their gaze towards Stambouli's goal. What's more — within two minutes the French goalkeeper was overcomed in a classic way: first Slavkov executed his specialty from a free kick into the left bottom corner, and immediately after that Markov from about 25 meters delivered an irresistible shot into the top corner, at which Stambouli could not even react.

And although too soon Gengenini again found a way for the ball to Velinov's net, the latter remained a reliable guardian of the army goal, saving the second penalty from Amoros as well! This was already too much for the hosts, who gradually reduced their momentum, and the army men also had a psychological advantage.

In the second half, the players of „Monaco“ no longer had their previous eagerness for a goal, while the Bulgarian footballers held the situation in their hands, which they did not relinquish until the end.

Thus CSKA „Sept. zname“, despite some setbacks at the beginning of the championship, once again showed itself as an experienced tournament fighter who knows how to mobilize in the matches of truth — those of the European club tournaments. Bravo, army men! For the skill, will, and courage in the tough battle at stadium „Louis II“!

The return leg is coming, in which „Monaco“ will certainly not be with a raised white flag, but the chances of our footballers are more than favorable. Let's wish them success!
